History

Established in 2013.

The South Pasadena Arts & Music Academy was founded as Greenbrooms South Pasadena by Manuel Lozano in 2013. The school’s foundational principle is that music is for everyone: every age, every instrument, every genre of music, every level of ability and commitment. Manuel fostered a community of achievement and inclusivity, recruiting teachers with many diverse talents and experiences to share, with passion for inspiration and community. In 2022, Manuel passed directorship of the school to longtime teacher and string department chair Rebecca Ward, and her husband and professional composer and pianist Jonathan Dinerstein. They have been honored to take up Manuel's legacy of musical excellence and fulfillment, allowing the warmth of the community to continue to flourish, while expanding the school’s offerings and performance opportunities.
