Bio: 

With over two decades of experience, Mauricio Lopez has established himself as an accomplished cellist and conductor. From 1999 to 2023, he held the positions of Cello Professor and Conductor of the Mozart and Bach Orchestras at the Emil Friedman School in Caracas, Venezuela. He obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music in 1997, followed by a Master's Degree in Cello Performance from the University of Michigan in 1999. Throughout his career, Mauricio participated in important music festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival in 1994 and 1998, as well as the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, Colorado, in 1996 and 1997. He actively engaged in chamber music recitals across Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico and the UK with the Humboldt String Quartet and Trio Académico Emil Friedman. He also served as the Principal Cellist with Virtuosi de Caracas, a renowned string orchestra specializing in the performance of Baroque repertoire from 1999 to 2014. Additionally, he was invited to serve as an adjudicator for the Second String Instruments Competition organized by the Batuta Foundation in Bogotá in 2002.

Mauricio was invited to perform at the Cervantino Festival, where he represented Venezuela during a tour of Mexico in 2003. His discography features recordings encompassing compositions by artists such as Manena Contreras, Alfredo Rugeles, Paul Desenne, the Camerata Criolla, and Virtuosi de Caracas.
