It’s hard to believe that South Pasadena Arts & Music Academy is going into their 10th year here in South Pasadena. In some ways it feels like yesterday that they opened the doors of their beautiful Craftsman studios to our community but it also feels like they’ve always been here. “We got lucky,” says founder Manuel Lozano, “we found an incredible community that appreciates the arts, appreciates music and arts education.”

The Art of the Pivot

For more than a decade, Manuel Lozano has worked meticulously to create a warm, welcoming environment for children to learn music and creative arts, with a particular focus on in-person, one-on-one instruction by dozens of hand-picked teachers. Set in a classic Craftsman home, South Pasadena Arts & Music Academy teaches hundreds of students from across Southern California everything from piano to ukulele, along with improv and musical theater, each year.

Arts & Music Academy Begins Soft Reopening

The South Pasadena Arts & Music Academy has reopened after 15 months with nearly 30% of its students partaking in in-person lessons.

Though it is making strides toward resuming normalcy, the South Pasadena Arts & Music Academy still has safety measures in place for their staff and students. Masks are worn at all times by students and staff, medical grade air filters were installed and the lobby remains closed.

All the Right Notes

Open since 2013, the academy provides instruction to more than 200 students on a weekly basis in singing, as well as a variety of instruments including the piano, cello, drums, guitar and ukulele.
