Bio: Favian Mendez-Guevara is a guitarist and educator from Pasadena, California. His musical studies began at age 6 on piano and continued at age 7 on violin before pursuing guitar in his late teens. He has studied both classical and jazz guitar and most recently graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Music in jazz performance.
Favian teaches piano and guitar in the Los Angeles area and has been an active educator for the last six years, working in various contexts ranging from private instruction to group lessons with the nonprofit organization Young Musicians Foundation. His background as a student of classical music in his youth and his jazz education allows him to impart the importance of technique and ear training to students, while also being able to adapt lessons to fit individual interests in contemporary works.
Recent musical endeavors include performing at the 2023 Jarek Smietana jazz guitar competition in Krakow, Poland, and planning the release of a solo guitar EP, set to come out in 2024.
