Bio: Unapologetically bold, loud and proud, Rogelio Resendiz is a Latinx, classically trained countertenor. Returning after a long musical hiatus from the city of Seattle, WA, he finds himself ecstatic to be back in The City of Angels! Rogelio is an innovative artist and educator, who strives to break traditional forms of classical music/opera by defying gender and ethnic norms, with a methodically inclusive sense of presentation, deep metaphor, and meaning. Rogelio is an advocate for arts education and LGBTQ+ minority youth. During his time in the Emerald City, Resendiz dove into music directing for theater. Music directing Annie, Seussical, and OZ at Village Theater & Theater Northwest are some of his favorite memories there.
He received his Bachelor’s of Music in Vocal Performance from Cornish College of the Arts, and is now at The California Institute of the Arts to receive his Masters in Vocal Performance. Rogelio is presently active with choral conducting, composition, performance, and musical theater, with the occasional dabble in experimental music. Under Rogelio’s direction, his middle school show choir was featured on ABC7 during the City of Paramount’s tree lighting ceremony in 2017. Rogelio has performed with Jennifer Holiday, Ruben Studdard, and Peabo Bryson in their Colors of Christmas concert, and at Disneyland’s candlelight processional choir. He has been a featured soloist for Handel’s Messiah at The Long Beach City Studio Theater, and performed as Idamante from Idomeneo, and Sesto from La Clemenza di Tito by Mozart, as a part of Pasadena’s Angel Vocal Art Opera.
Rogelio strongly believes that being able to supplement his instruction with empathetic human connections is paramount for the development of his pupils. He strives to create an inclusive environment under his tutelage, leaving the doors open to anybody who wants or needs to immerse themselves in the art of music.
