Student Agreement

Registration: An annual registration fee of $40 will be applied when students enroll and each year they elect to continue lessons, on the anniversary of their enrollment date. This fee does not apply to one-off students.

Intro Lessons: SPAMA has a (2) intro lesson limit for each teacher and instrument.

Payment of Tuition: Tuition must be paid by credit card within the student portal. Tuition will be debited on the 1st day of each month. Monthly tuition is applied to once-weekly lessons and is the same every month, regardless of the number of lesson days appearing on the calendar. December and January tuition remain the same, and these months are factored into our monthly tuition schedule (49 weeks/year).

NSF Fee: Payees will receive email notifications if their payment is declined. If payment is not made by the 3rd day of the month, a $30 insufficient fee fund will be applied.

Withdrawal and Refunds: There is a 2-month minimum for all lessons. The only exceptions to our 2-month minimum are one-off lessons, and class packs of four (4) and/or eight (8) which are only offered for Early Childhood Music and Summer Session group classes.

30 DAYS NOTICE IS REQUIRED TO DISCONTINUE ANY ONGOING SUBSCRIPTION

Notice of withdrawal must be given to staff by emailing staff@artsmusicacademy.com. All charges will stop after the one-month notice period. South Pasadena Arts & Music Academy reserves the right to terminate lessons of any students without notice. In such a case a refund for unused lessons will be given.

Substitutions: Students may be given a substitute instructor if their regularly scheduled teacher is unable to teach. Students will be notified of their sub instructor beforehand. If students elect to cancel their lesson with 24 hours notice, this will count against their 2 makeups (see next section). If a sub cannot be arranged, any missed classes will be made up and not counted against the makeup allowances.

Missed Private Music Lessons and Make-up Lessons: To be eligible for a make-up lesson, students must give 24 hours notice before their lesson. Notice must be given by canceling the lesson in the portal, or emailing staff@artsmusicacademy.com. Instructors do not handle scheduling and informing them of an absence will not be considered notice. No make-up lessons will be given for missed lessons, including vacation and illness, unless 24 hours notice has been given. No refunds are given for missed lessons or unused make-up lessons. Make-up lessons are limited to 2 per instrument every 120 days, and must be made up within 90 days of cancellation. It is the responsibility of the student to schedule make-up lessons for eligible absences. If a student needs to cancel last-minute or has used up their 2 makeups for the 120 day period, we highly recommend taking the lesson online or requesting a LessonMate. To request an online lesson or a LessonMate, please email staff@artsmusicacademy.com. You may also request a LessonMate by logging in to the portal and clicking "Request LessonMate" next to the scheduled lesson.

Group Classes and Ensembles: All students are eligible to enroll in group classes and ensembles at SPAMA. Students who would like to participate in our chamber ensembles must be enrolled in ongoing private lessons, and will need both the recommendation of their private instructor and an approval by the ensemble director(s).

Missed Semi-Private Lessons, Group Classes, and Ensembles: If one student in a semi-private lesson is absent, regardless of notice, a makeup credit will NOT be issued - a LessonMate will be sent in lieu of a credit. If ALL students miss a semi-private class and 24 hours notice is given, a makeup credit will be issued to all students. All students must be available for a makeup semi-private lesson credit to be used. Makeup credits are NOT issued for missed group classes or ensembles; a LessonMate will be sent in lieu of a credit. For missed SPAMA Chorale classes only, neither a makeup credit, nor a LessonMate will be issued.

Care of Students: South Pasadena Arts & Music Academy is not responsible for providing before or after class care for students. Parents with students under the age of 6 are to remain in the academy during classes. Students are not to be left at the academy for excessive time before or after class.

Winter Break and School Closures: South Pasadena Arts & Music Academy holds a (2) week Holiday Closure and a (1) week Summer Closure every year to accommodate holiday travel and school breaks for winter and summer. South Pasadena Arts & Music Academy is also closed on Memorial Day and the Sunday before Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and the Sunday before Labor Day, and the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend. We are also closed on Recital Days. To accommodate lessons scheduled on these days, all classes will be made up or rescheduled and not counted against the two (2) per 120 days. South Pasadena Arts & Music Academy will be open all other holidays according to our normal office/teaching hours. Click here to view our Academic Calendar.

Injuries: Parents, legal guardians of minor students, and adult students waive the right to any legal action for any injury sustained on school property resulting from normal music activity or any other activity conducted by the students before, during, or after class time.
